Host Institution Staff

In 1994, Utah State University became the host institution for SARE's Western Region. Under the direction of Regional Coordinator Phil Rasmussen, and with guidance and oversight from the Administrative Council, staff members coordinate and administer Research and Education and Farmer/Rancher competitive grants. Rasmussen is also responsible for the Professional Development Program based in eastern Wyoming.

Utah State provides a welcome home for Western SARE. As a land-grant and top-level research institution, USU excels in agricultural, natural resources and engineering research and education, arenas that nurture sustainability in agriculture, the environment and communities. Indeed, USU is a signatory to the Talloires Declaration, a statement of environmental responsibility and sustainability signed by universities from around the world, indicating a commitment to create and maintain the culture and practice of environmental sustainability.
Evidence of USU's commitment to sustainability came in late 2004 when the university was named the first ever champion in the university division of the America in Bloom competition, a nonprofit organization that promotes efforts to beautify and engage in environmentally sound landscape management.
Located in northern Utah, on a bluff overlooking the beautiful Cache Valley and the city of Logan, Utah State University is honored to host the Western Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program.
At Western SARE, we're committed to serving all farmers and ranchers and their support organizations in the West. If you have questions, observations or concerns, we want to hear them. Please contact us.
